Studio Policy
Welcome to Joyful Sound Piano Studio, where we strive to offer a valuable and engaging piano education experience. We appreciate your commitment and understanding of our policies, which are designed to ensure the smooth operation of our studio.
There are two pricing options:
Option 1: Discounted Price(most popular):
If you are paying the discounted price, it means you are paying for the cost of three lessons but receiving four lessons each month. This is based on the surrounding studios’ monthly fees. Please note that we do not provide ‘free’ make-up lessons for any missed sessions, regardless of the reason. This policy helps us cover our studio’s expenses, such as utilities and bills. Once a time slot is reserved in the studio, it is the student’s responsibility to pay for that slot, whether or not they attend the lesson. The studio must cover expenses like electricity, gas, and other fees, whether a student attends the class or not.
Here are the options for you when you are absent.
- Virtual Lesson: Attend your lesson online at your assigned time slot.
- Asynchronous Lesson: Record your practice at home and send it to your teacher. Your teacher will review the recording and provide teaching suggestions.
- Join the Monthly Music Theory Zoom Class: Enhance your music knowledge and skills in a fun group setting.
- Pre-Paid Make-Up Lesson: If you prefer a one-on-one make-up lesson, you can request one by pre-paying $20.
Option 2: Regular Price (Same price $140 to $155 a month as nearby studios): Please see the near by studio pricing If you are paying the regular price, you are entitled to some additional benefits.
Here are the options for regular price students when you are absent.
- One Free Make-Up Lesson Every Three Months: You are eligible for one free make-up lesson every three months. Please give your teacher a 48-hour notification before your absence to schedule this lesson.
- Asynchronous Lesson: Record your practice at home and send it to your teacher. Your teacher will review your recording and provide teaching suggestions.
- Join the Monthly Music Theory Zoom Class: Participate in our monthly music theory classes to enhance your music knowledge and skills.
- Additional Make-Up Lessons: If you require more than one make-up lesson within the same three-month period, please pre-pay $20 before requesting to schedule a make-up lesson.
Teacher’s Absence: In case the teacher is absent, free make-up lessons will be provided at the teacher’s available time.
We appreciate your support and cooperation in adhering to our studio policies. If you have any questions or need further clarification on any of these options, please feel free to reach out to us. Thank you for choosing Joyful Sound Piano Studio for your musical education.

Make up policy
The policy and reasoning for not offering free make-up lessons at Joyful Sound Piano Studio are clearly laid out and make sense. It’s essential for students and parents to understand the rationale behind this policy to ensure a smooth and fair learning environment for all parties involved. Here’s a summary of the key points:
Policy Summary:
- The studio operates under a monthly flat fee system where time slots are reserved for students and teachers to commit to.
- The monthly fee is designed to be as reasonable and affordable as possible in the current economic climate.
- Ms. Joy, a professional concert pianist with a piano performance degree, offers a unique and highly qualified teaching experience.
- The studio does not offer free make-up lessons for any reason due to the reasons outlined below.
Reasons for No Free Make-Up Lesson Policy:
- Financial Benefits: Students save money each month with the quality teaching provided, which pays off in a few months.
- Time Slot Commitment: The studio is responsible for holding the time for students with a monthly flat fee. If a student is absent, the teacher’s time slot is wasted, and it’s challenging to fill that slot for just one week.
- Utility Costs: The studio is responsible for paying utility bills whether or not a student attends a lesson, and if a student is absent and asks for another time slot, it results in extra costs for the teacher.
- Scheduling Challenges: Finding another time slot for students and parents can be difficult due to established schedules. Requesting free make-up lessons can place an additional burden on the teacher.
- Rising Business Costs: Small business owners, including music teachers, face higher business fees and tax commissions. Private music teachers often do not have insurance or benefits, making it challenging to make a living.
Understanding these reasons helps students and parents appreciate the value of the teaching and the need for the studio to maintain this policy to provide affordable lessons while supporting the teachers. If a student or parent feels that this policy is not a good fit, the option to notify Ms. Joy three weeks before the next billing cycle is provided, allowing for a fair resolution. This transparent and reasonable approach to lesson policies is essential for maintaining a high-quality learning environment.
Why choose Joyful Sound Studio?
The importance of proper training in piano instruction cannot be overstated. Ms. Joy’s piano performance degree and her extensive training make a significant difference in the quality of education students receive at Joyful Sound Piano Studio. Here’s a breakdown of the importance of proper training and the difference between a degree in music and a degree in piano performance:
Correct and Effective Instruction: Proper training ensures that students receive accurate and effective guidance in piano playing and music theory. It helps prevent students from learning incorrect techniques and concepts, which can be difficult to unlearn later.
Avoiding Common Mistakes: In the age of easily accessible online resources, it’s common for individuals to encounter misinformation or suboptimal teaching methods on platforms like YouTube and Facebook. Properly trained instructors can help students discern between accurate and inaccurate information and correct any misconceptions.
Efficient Progress: A teacher with a piano performance degree has specialized knowledge and expertise in piano playing. They can provide students with a structured and efficient path to musical development, saving time and money that might otherwise be wasted on unproductive learning.
Focused Specialization: The difference between a general music degree and a piano performance degree is like the difference between a family doctor and a cardiologist. A general music degree covers a wide range of musical concepts, but a piano performance degree is more focused on developing advanced piano playing skills. This specialization allows piano performance degree holders to provide in-depth and specialized instruction.
In-Depth Music Knowledge: While both degrees may involve music theory, a piano performance degree also delves deeply into the mechanics of piano playing, technique, interpretation, and performance skills. This level of expertise is invaluable for students looking to excel in piano.
Tailored Instruction: Teachers with a piano performance degree can customize their instruction to cater to each student’s unique needs and goals, providing a more personalized learning experience.
In summary, proper training is essential for ensuring that students receive accurate, effective, and efficient piano instruction. A degree in piano performance signifies a higher level of expertise in piano playing and equips instructors to provide specialized and high-quality guidance to their students. It’s important for individuals seeking piano lessons to understand the difference between different types of musical degrees to make informed decisions about their education.
