Why?
We offer monthly online Zoom music theory classes, available to all students of Joyful Sound Piano Studio, and it’s completely free.
Why are music theory group classes important?
Music theory can be challenging and difficult to remember. Our classes are designed to make learning music terms, rhythms, and notes enjoyable. Through group activities and interaction, students can reinforce their basic music knowledge. Games and group engagement make it easier for students to memorize music terms.
Music theory is a vital component of piano learning. It accelerates students’ progress and boosts self-confidence.
These classes serve as an alternative for students who may miss regular lessons. We understand that accommodating every student’s busy schedule can be challenging. Finding a suitable time slot that works for both teachers and students can be difficult. For teachers, managing multiple time slots with affordable monthly fees is challenging. This class provides additional learning opportunities, whether a student is absent or not.
To make these classes engaging and enjoyable, Ms. Joy dedicates her spare time to their preparation. We encourage you to value these classes as much as Ms. Joy values your child’s learning progress.

Please download the Zoom app on your iPad or computer for the Zoom class. We recommend using Zoom on an iPad because the screen is larger and more suitable for kids. Using an iPhone or cell phone is not ideal due to their smaller screens.

What?
In these theory classes, students will learn the following:
Ear Training: This helps students develop the ability to hear what they are playing. Often, students get too focused on reading notes or figuring out finger placement. Ear training assists them in recognizing when they are playing the correct or incorrect piano keys.
Rhythm: Rhythm is the essence of music, but many piano players struggle with it, especially when using all their fingers. In these classes, students will learn to master rhythm and play it accurately.
Music Terms and Notes: Playing the piano involves numerous music terms, and sometimes students forget note counts or names. In a group setting, students are more engaged and competitive, making it easier and more enjoyable to learn music terms and notes.
Music Appreciation: Beyond practical skills, students will also delve into music history, composer profiles, and various music genres, fostering a deep appreciation for the art of music.

How?
This is a free one-hour class for all Joyful Sound Piano Studio students. Please register each month, and the teacher will provide the Zoom link.
Download Zoom on your iPad, tablet, or computer and ensure you’re near your keyboard, as we’ll use it during the class.
Set your Zoom background noise control to “low” in the audio settings. High background noise control may mute piano sounds.
Familiarize your child with the Zoom “annotation” tool, which allows them to draw on the screen.
Ensure students have a pencil and eraser ready for each class.
