📌 Important – Please Read!

✅ Find your child’s name on the list.
✅ Note their judge number and assigned time.
✅ Arrive at least 10 minutes early.
✅ Check in with Ms. Joy before proceeding—she will provide the necessary books for you to check in at your assigned judge’s table.

This is like taking a big test at school

Your child is going to use their brain a lot. They are under pressure as well. Your child should have good rest. And have a protein meal before coming.

Step 1: find Ms. Joy first.​

Please arrive 10 minutes before your assigned time. Go to the 2nd floor, and turn left. Go straight and pass two doors. Go all the way to the lobby at the end.

NFMC Facility Tour

Find Ms. Joy first. (very important) Ms. Joy will give you the original music books. Please don't bring the copied music sheets that they practice. You will be disqualified if you check in with the copied music sheet.

Step 2: Check in your judge # table

After you found Ms. Joy and have your music book. Please go  check in. You should see your judge number check in table.  After check in, you will be waiting in the waiting room. Someone will call your name shortly.

Step 3: Someone will call your name

Someone will call the student's name. Please follow the person who calls your name.

Parents, friends, stay in the waiting room

This is an evaluation performance. Only students and workers are allowed to go to the performing area. Parents, please stay in the waiting room.

Step 4: When you are in the performance room

Please don't play when you first walk in. Wait for the judge teacher's instructions. The judge teacher needs time to finish the command for the previous student. He/she will ask you to play a "warm-up" exercise. You can play scales.
After a few minutes, he/she will ask you which one you want to play first. And you can begin to play your 1st song.
After 1st song, please wait again for the judge teacher to finish writing down the comments. Wait for the judge teacher's instruction to play the 2nd song.

Tips on your performance

#1, Once you play the song, You cannot stop for more than 5 seconds. Because if you stop for more than 5 seconds, your mind will be stressed and you will not be able to remember your song.
#2. Just keep playing, Don't give yourself time to feel stressed.
#3. Make sure you place your hands in the correct hand's positions.
#4. If for some reason, you cannot remember your song. Take a deep breath. Have some happy thoughts. You turn to the judge teacher with a smile. Ask he/she if you can start over again. (This might affect your rating) .

Steps 5: After you finish, *****DON"T LEAVE YET****

After you finished. Please don't leave yet.
#1. Go back to the registration table. They are going to record your rating. They will give you the rating sheet and a small certificate.
#2. Find Ms. Joy again. (very important) Return the music books to Ms. Joy. Ms. Joy will need to collect your rating sheet and a small certificate to make a copy. These rating sheets and certificates will return to you in your next lesson.

Steps 6: Hooray, You are done!

You are done! Congratulation on all of your hard work. You can leave after this.

If you are taking NFMC music theory test, Please stay after your piano performance. Someone will take you to the music theory room.

Students needs to memorize two songs.

Requirement and choice song.

For the choice song in the primary level, they will play a song from their book memorized.

For the choice song in the Elementary level, they will play a song from Classical composer and memorized.

How is it work?

Students needs to practice two songs and memorized it. This is an evolution program. Students are going to play in front of another teacher (Some times, it's called judge). The judge teacher is going to write down comments and give them a rating. These ratings are Superior (5 points), Excellent (4 points), Satisfactory (3 points), Fair (2 points) and Needs Improvement (1 point). 

For every 15 points, Students will received a trophy from NFMC to acknowledge their achievements.

The benefit of the NFMC event

  1. It is helping their self confident and music skills
  2. It is helping them with memorization.
  3. Helping kids overcome their anxiety. Also help kids to be a better performers
  4. Motivates students when students hear other performer.
  5. The NFMC certificates are honored by all major college.

This is an evaluation program

This is like a private audition. Parents and teachers are not allowed  to be in the room to watch student's performance. This is not a public performance.

Remember your assigned time and assigned judge number.

1st. Arrive at the place 15 minutes before your assigned time.

2nd: Go to 2nd floor and follow the sign to the lobby.

3rd: Please fine Ms. Joy before checking in. Very very important.

4th:Check in with your assigned judge table. 

5th: Please be seat in the waiting lobby. Someone will call your name shortly.

6th: Only student allow to go in to the testing area. Parents stay in the waiting room.

7th: after play, you walk out and register

If this is your first year

Please provide the following information. 

  1. Student's full name.
  2. Student's birthday
  3. Student's grade level
  4. Student's age by the Federation date (March 18,2023)

Application turn in deadline

The fee turn in dead line is in November 2022. The application deadline is in January.

After turn in the application, student will not be able to change their songs.  Student can still change their assigned music before application turn in dead line .

If you feel that your child's Federation pieces are too hard or too easy. Or your child told you so, please let Ms. Joy know  asap.

Practice

Students will play two songs. One required song from NFMC bulletin and one choice song from their books.

For the choice songs in  primary levels, I will pick up a song from their book.

For the choice songs in elementary level, students needs to play Classical piano pieces.  

Both songs needs to be memorized.

Ms. Joy will choose and prepared all music for students.

How can parents help

Make sure they practice  two songs.

In Nov, 2022: We are just going to play the NFMC songs a little.  We will focus more on the holiday songs.

In Dec, 2022: we are going to play more on the NFMC songs with Holiday songs.

In 2023: Fully focus on the Federation songs.

Please check your calendar. Text msg Ms. Joy if you have any appointment or game on March 18.  Ms. Joy can put a request in the application to avoid the conflicts.

The procedure for time scheduling: They will work on the schedule after received the applications. We will know the time schedule by the end of February.
