Gator Come Later
Piano Solo Sheet Music for Late Beginner or Early Intermediate Level
🐊 The Story Behind the Song
On July 7, 2014, a piano teacher’s world got a bit wild when a real-life alligator stopped by her front door during a lesson. The gator eventually wandered back to its habitat, but the moment was far too memorable to ignore. I decided to turn that neighborhood “visitor” into a musical story.
🎹 Playing Technique
-
The “Walking” Sound: This piece utilizes lower keys, specifically Perfect 5ths moving in half steps (C, F, and G). This creates the rhythmic, deliberate gait of a walking alligator.
-
Creating Tension: The low register and the required use of the pedal help build an atmospheric sense of danger—like a predator getting closer with every measure.
🖐️ The Final Tremolo
The last measure offers two ways to play:
-
For Younger Students: Use both hands for the tremolo to keep it manageable.
-
For Older Students: Challenge your dexterity by playing the tremolo with just the right hand (RH).

(Tremolo)
