Dancing Fairies
Inspired by Burgmüller’s 12 Etudes, Op. 105, No. 6.
A Musical Journey: From Childhood Memories to Fluttering Fairies 🧚♂️✨
Growing up with a mother who was a piano teacher, I was “dragged” to her student recitals almost every single year. 🎹 One year, she picked out a very special piece for me: Burgmüller’s 12 Etudes, Op. 105, No. 6.
I was only in sixth grade at the time, just beginning to navigate all those little “pre-teen” emotions. I remember that whenever I played that piece, it brought a sense of peace and satisfaction to my heart that I couldn’t quite put into words. ❤️🩹
As I grew older, I kept thinking about that melody and tried searching for the sheet music, but I could never find it! I had always assumed it was the work of a Japanese composer. 🇯🇵 It wasn’t until recently, when I happened to hear someone play a few familiar bars, that I realized I had been looking for the wrong person all these years! 🤔
I think the reason this piece is a bit obscure is that it really “eats” into your fundamental skills. 🎼 Those lightning-fast 16th notes require serious finger strength and agility; if your technique isn’t quite there, playing it feels as exhausting as climbing a massive mountain. 🏔️ Perhaps it’s because it’s so challenging that it managed to play “hide-and-seek” with me for so long.
Now that I’ve become a piano teacher myself, I really wanted to recapture that pure magic. 🌟 So, I sat down and composed a new piece, weaving the essence of that memory into the music. I used a Hanon-style 16th-note technique, specifically designing a fingering pattern with four consecutive repeated notes.
I’ve always had this image in my mind: these light, quick notes are like little fairies dancing through a forest—playful, graceful, and completely free! 🧚♀️✨ I hope this melody carries peace and joy into everyone’s hearts, using the power of music to brighten every corner. 🌈🎶
