Joy Gilmore is a certified piano teacher who earned her Bachelor’s degree in piano performance and church music in 1987. With nearly 40 years of experience, she currently resides in Atlanta, Georgia.

Joy's Bio
“Joy Gilmore is a native of Taiwan, born into a pastor’s family. She began playing the piano at the age of 7 and started performing at her father’s church when she was 12. Her teaching career commenced at the age of 18 while she was still in college. Joy earned her Bachelor’s degree in piano performance and church music in 1987. Following her graduation, she taught at Glad Tidings Bible College in Taichung, Taiwan, from 1987 to 1989, where she also became a certified Carl Orff Pedagogy teacher. In 1994, Joy relocated to the United States and continued her piano teaching career in Atlanta, Georgia. Notably, Joy has been an active member of the National Federation of Music Clubs, where her students have consistently received Artistry awards and superior ratings since 2006. As of today, Joy has dedicated over 37 years to the piano teaching industry.
Joy is also an accomplished composer with a catalog of pieces that include piano solos, duets, and ensemble compositions. She has a knack for rearranging hymns and Christmas songs, tailoring music to her students’ skill levels.
Joy employs a diverse range of teaching styles to suit her students. For very young children, she employs her ‘Musical Zoo’ method, incorporating zoo animals to facilitate learning. Young beginners focus on building fundamental skills with a wide array of tools, including iPads, board games, and other engaging musical activities. Joy’s extensive teaching experience has allowed her to create unique methods for teaching challenging skills like rhythm counting, finger coordination, sight-reading, and more.
Teen and adult beginners receive guidance on building knowledge and physical skills, with simplified scales, arpeggios, and other technique exercises that have led to tremendous progress. Joy’s ability to rearrange songs to match her students’ skill levels ensures they can enjoy playing their favorite pieces sooner.
